Riveredge Silent Sports: Wetland Wonders Run/Hike
Saturday, May 11, 1-2:30pm
It’s spring and the wetlands of Riveredge are bursting with life! Our hike and run routes will take to a vernal pond, swamp, and a fen. Whether you choose to run or hike, your workout is sure to be serenaded by frog and bird song. Who knows, maybe you’ll spot a fairy shrimp or two! Meet at the Visitors’ Center.

Space is limited so sign up early! Pre-registration and pre-payment required. Call 262-375-2715 to register.

Riveredge Silent Sports: Shady Forest Run or Hike
Saturday, July 6, 1-2:30
It’s summer and the sun is strong, but beneath the forest canopy, it’s cool and breezy. Enjoy the delights of summer as you run or hike the Riveredge woodland trails. Breathe deeply and delight in the rich, forest fragrance. Enjoy the music of crickets, songbirds and treefrogs. We’ll end our workout with an invitation to kick off our shoes and cool our feet in a natural pool!

Riveredge Silent Sports: Hike in the River
Saturday, August 3, 1-2:30
Beat the August heat with a splash in the river! For this session, we will meet at the West Parking Lot of Riveredge Nature Center to be closer to the river. Wearing our old sneakers, we will hike down the river using the current for resistance. Strength training and cardio happen simultaneously in this water workout! Who knows? Maybe our laughter and splashing will wake up a great blue heron, bald eagle, or river otter! (After all, the name Silent Sports applies to the non-motorized recreation we enjoy, not the silence of the group members!)
Fee: $4 / Member: $2
Meet at the West Parking Lot. Old running or hiking shoes with firm, rubber soles work really well for this activity. Aqua shoes and aqua socks are not recommended!
Riveredge Silent Sports: Harvest Run or Hike
Saturday, September 7, 1-2:30pm
Come celebrate the first day of fall with a healthy outdoor adventure! It’s September and the Riveredge Organic Garden is full of healthy snacks. Both the hiking and the running routes will take us through Riveredge’s Woodland Harvest Permaculture Project. After a short break to feed the chickens, we will head back towards the Visitors’ Center and end our adventure at the Riveredge Children’s Garden. Whatever is available to harvest will become our post-workout snack! Meet at the Visitors’ Center.
Fee: $4 / Member: $2
Riveredge Silent Sports: Autumn River Trail Run or Hike
Saturday, October 12, 1-2:30
Fall is simply the best season for outdoor workouts. Come celebrate the peak of the season with us! There is no more beautiful place at Riveredge than the trails along the river at the height of autumn. Our running and hiking routes will be designed to acquaint us with some of the tree species that make the Riveredge forests so healthy and diverse. Meet at the Visitors’ Center.
Fee: $4 / Member: $2
Riveredge Silent Sports: Glacial Landform Loop Run/Hike
Saturday, November 2, 1-2:30pm
Join us for a hike or a run through the “hills and valleys” of Riveredge and discover that you are actually traveling upon glacial landforms! On our journey, we will visit a moraine, a kettle, a kame and an esker. It’s amazing to think that the landforms left behind when the glaciers retreated 10,000 years ago bring beauty and variety to our outdoor workouts today! Meet at the Visitors’ Center.
Fee: $4 / Member: $2
Riveredge Silent Sports: Workout on Snowshoes (or Run/Hike)
Saturday, December 7, 1-2:30pm
Come celebrate an early Winter Solstice! If the trails are snow-covered, we will enjoy a beautiful route through the sparkling forests and fields of Riveredge. If the trails are bare, we will take in the crisp winter air sans snowshoes. Either way, it will be the perfect way to greet the new season! Meet at the Visitors’ Center.
Fee: $6 / Member: $4 – For those borrowing snowshoes from Riveredge.
Fee: $4 / Member: $2 – For those bringing their own snowshoes (or for all participants if we hike/run instead of snowshoe due to weather).
